Hi! I'm Kirsten. I'm the founder of House of Julep.
I grew up in an old Victorian farmhouse in rural Illinois - you know the kind of place with creaky floors, steep stairs, and stories in every corner. When my parents bought it, it had been split into two separate apartments and was in need of a LOT of love.
Over the years, they painstakingly renovated it and it was always so cool as a kid to see not only how hard they worked but how resourceful they were when challenges arose – As I’m sure you can imagine, renovating a house built in the 1890s is not a straight or easy path!
Here's a photo of the finished house if you're curious:
My mom was in charge of most of the interior design and did a beautiful job in keeping with the original Victorian style of the house. As you can imagine, there were lots of beautiful draperies and patterned wallpaper and fantastic antique furniture (a lot of which she reupholstered herself!).
Well, all of this must have stuck with me as somewhere along the way, I, too, fell in love with old houses and character and design that’s lasting.
But above all, I fell in love with the patterns on home decor - the ones that tie a room together and make it feel thoughtful, special, and unique.
The only problem? As I started decorating my own house, I couldn't find the patterns like I imagined in my head - so I decided to create my own and House of Julep was born.
I'm so glad you stopped by - I hope you, too, can find the patterns you've been looking for that will make your room feel just how you imagined.
